Basic FAQs

Q: How do I measure visible glass size?

A: Using a tape measurer, measure from the first visible piece of glass, but-up against the wood, to the next end of first part of wood-width first. Hence the name, visible glass size.

Q: How do I tell if I need a left or right part?

A: Looking from the inside of your house, note which side your sash lock is on. The sash lock is on the part of the window that does not move. If your sash lock is on the right, you need a right part, on the left, a left part.

Q: How do I know if I need weatherstrip?

A: Open your window look inside the sash and frame and you will see vinyl strips stuck in there. You can pull them out and examine them. It often becomes cracked, UV damaged, or just missing.

Q: How do I know if I need door rollers?

A: This can be a tricky one. Sometimes your door just comes
off the tracks. If your door won't slide back & forth, you may need new rollers.

Q: How can I tell how old my windows are?

A: If you built your house you can usually date the windows
back 9 months from the date the windows were put in. Or if you bought the windows from a dealer you may be able to check with them. If you have double pane glass check between
the pieces of glass called the "spacer." That's the aluminum separating the glass. The writing may be small, so look closely all around the spacer.

Q: How do I tell who the manufacturer is?

A: Again, look between the spacer. For example, my windows read: 7 30 93 WS 16cc ® CBA 03. That translates: July 30th, 1993 Weather Shield.
