K-KRON TOUCH UP AND REFINISHING INSTRUCTIONS

The best technical recommendation for refinishing an unexposed unit or a unit exposed less than five years which has good film integrity and good gloss is as follows: 
Scuff sand all coated surfaces to complete dullness with 220 grit sandpaper or #1 steel wool. Wipe clean with a cloth dampened with Pittsburgh Paints surface conditioner 17-16, or other good quality lacquer thinner following label instructions. This step is most important to insure final topcoat adhesion.  

Prime all surfaces with Pittsburgh Paints white Multi-Prime 97-684, following label instructions.Finish with two coats of either Pittsburgh Paints Sun-Proof semi-gloss acrylic latex house and trim paint, 78-line, or Sun-Proof flat acrylic latex house paint, 72-line, or other good quality acrylic latex topcoat in selected color. Follow label instructions. Apply as is from can; do not reduce.

The following is the best technical recommendations for refinishing a unit that has been exposed longer than five years, a unit that has started to chalk or fade, or has cracking, peeling or flaking:
Scuff sand all coated surfaces to complete dulled with 220 grit sandpaper or #1 steel wool. Wipe clean with a cloth dampened with Pittsburgh paints surface conditioner 17-16, or other good quality lacquer thinner, following label instructions.  This step is most important to insure final topcoat adhesion. Scuff sand both the area where the coating was removed as well as the surrounding coated area with 220 grit sandpaper or #1 steel wool. This will insure good coating adhesion. Wipe this area clean with a cloth dampened with Pittsburgh Paints surface conditioner,17-16, or other good quality lacquer thinner, following label instructions.   Prime only the bare wood area with Pittsburgh Paints universal primer 1-70, or exterior wood primer 6-9, or other good quality alkyd (oil base) wood primer, following label instructions.

Finish only the primed area and immediate surrounding area with two coats of either Pittsburgh paints Sun-Proof semi-gloss acrylic latex house and trim paint, 78-line, or Sun-Proof flat acrylic latex house paint, 72-line, or other good quality acrylic latex topcoat in selected color. Follow label instructions. Apply as is from can; do not reduce.

Here is the best technical recommendation for touching up small nicks and scratches the factory finish:  
Small nicks and scratches can be classified as less than one inch in length and one-half inch in diameter.  If the defect is larger than this recommendation, then the previously mentioned refinishing methods should be used. Wipe the area to be touched up with a cloth dampened with Pittsburgh Paints surface conditioner.               

Shake or agitate the touch up container supplied with the factory finished unit. Apply according to label instructions.
