How to Replace Operators

Replacing an operator is a lot easier than you might think.  Follow these easy steps and you won't have a problem. We've heard some customers say they didn't think the cover was supposed to be removed.  It is not part of the window itself.  If you pry gently it will come up.  Sometimes it can get chipped or broken--it's o.k. You can do a little touch up or you can order a new one on the casement parts page.

1. Picture of window intact.

2. Unscrew the handle.

3.

4.

5. Cut paint line on side.

6. Crank open window. If you have a straight arm operator push down on the arm to free it from the guide track.

7. Slide clip away from sash bracket with a screwdriver. If you don't have clips then you have the type that pry off (stick your flathead screwdriver on the sash bracket under the arm & pry upwards).

8. Stick a flexible putty knife into paint line, corner of knife first. Do this along edge of line and gently pry up, being careful not to crack cover. You can use a pry bar GENTLY.

9. Lift cover off...........

10. Unscrew the old operator.
11. Screw in the new operator.

12. Put the clip that's attached to the small arm back on the sash bracket and slide back using the flat-head screwdriver.

13. Put handle back on to bring window loser, push down arm and put on guide track.

14. Set one end of the cover in place & gently tap the other end down with hammer.

15. Put the putty knife between the cover & your hammer so you don't damage the wood. Hammer back the nails.

16. Keep tapping cover until it is all the way down.

17. Crank window in, then snap on plastic cover.

18. Screw handle back on and you're done
